Lightning Roulette is an innovative take on this software supplier’s classic game of live roulette. Not only is it set in a never-before-seen studio environment (more on this at the end), it features one unique add-on that can make all the difference to your wins on a straight up bet – to the tune of 500x. This RNG element selects between one to five numbers per round that are considered as Lucky Numbers with corresponding multipliers and the rest lies on where the ball comes to a stop on the wheel track.
Now that you’ve got a brief overview, let’s move on to how to play Lightning Roulette with an overview of its rules, payouts and more.

Much like its 200 or so year old predecessor, the aim of this live dealer game is to predict the number on which the ball will come to rest by placing one or more bets that cover that particular number. So before mastering how to play Lightning Roulette, it may be beneficial to look over our guide to winning roulette in 8 steps if you’re a beginner. Otherwise, let’s dive right in.
One of the most common questions players ask is “Is Lightning Roulette a European or American roulette game”?. It’s the former as its wheel (which you can take a closer look at further down) includes the numbers 1–36 plus a single 0 (zero).
During betting time, you’re able to place roulette bets on a single or series of numbers just as you would in the standard game. Once this time frame comes to a close, between one and five Lucky Numbers with Lucky Payouts are randomly selected during the RNG portion of this game, and highlighted in the game’s user interface. Instead of being spun by the dealer, the ball spins around the track by an auto roulette wheel and eventually comes to rest on one of the numbered pockets on the track. You’ll win if the original wager you placed covers that particular winning number.
If the winning number is among the randomly selected Lucky Numbers and is covered by a straight up bet you placed, then the Lucky Payout, that is, random multipliers of 50x, 100x, 200x, 300x, 400x or 500x, will be paid out to you.
Before moving onto what it pays and the roulette systems that might gain you an advantage, let’s define the need-to-know Lightning Roulette game rules. These mostly remain consistent with the standard game however there are a few key differences, namely:
We’ll bet you’re wondering what Lightning Roulette payouts are, aren’t you? We won’t hold off any longer.
They’re listed in the table below for you, first inside bets followed by outside ones. You’ll notice that the payouts are all identical to standard roulette, excluding the payout for a straight up bet which goes up to 500x if that multiplier is assigned to one of the Lucky Numbers and that number hits.
If you’re curious, the game’s optimal theoretical return to player is 97.30% based on optimal strategy for Split, Street, Corner, Line and all Outside bets. Remember that any malfunction whilst you’re playing will void the round in question as well as all its eventual payouts.
The short answer is no, unfortunately. It’s not possible to play Lightning Roulette online for free because in addition to the running costs of keeping the studio environment lit up in such a wonderful way, there are other overhead costs including the games presenter’s salary as well as those of the people behind the scenes and other associated costs. The initial R&D costs required to create such a riveting game need to be accounted for too.
Despite this, many online casinos will grant you access to the game (even with a casino account balance of €0). Use this to your advantage and navigate the interface to familiarise yourself with the game and its set-up without needing to place a wager yourself. It’s highly beneficial that you’re given the opportunity to do this so seize it.
In terms of reaching big returns on this game, you’ll need to make straight up bets. It’s for this reason that traditional roulette betting systems you may have tried before such as Martingale or Fibonacci that are made on even money bets don’t apply here.
The most widely accepted Lightning Roulette strategy is to place a straight up bet on each individual number on the roulette table. In this way, you’re guaranteed a win with payout odds of at least 50x depending on the random multiplier assigned to the Lucky Numbers. The only issue with this is that you may not walk away with a profit if it takes a while for you to land any Lucky Payouts. Similarly, you could bet on sections of the wheel to still cover a fairly large portion of the layout while keeping your bet per spin lower. If you opt for this approach, make sure you’re not betting with your bonus balance as such as risk-averse strategy may hinder you in receiving your winnings.
There are previous round statistics for you to refer to but remember, they’re no indication of what will happen in the next round. And ultimately, do keep in mind that the portion of this game that pays the most is purely luck-based so play what you can when you can and enjoy the ride.
The look, feel and games host really do make Evolution game show titles stand out and this one is no exception. It’s all set in what its creator describes as a stunning black and gold Art Deco environment, and as you can see from the images, they’re not overselling it.
The studio is enclosed within four columns that lend to creating an immersive feel and a vast number of gold and white LEDs add a spark to the surroundings. When the Lucky Numbers are being selected, you’ll see lightning bolts run through the columns but there’s more to the visuals than simply living up to its name.
The Lucky Numbers are selected from a digital roulette table that appears in the background. The dealer then pulls a lever to reveal up to five chosen numbers that qualify for multiplier payouts during that same spin. It’s a real treat to watch.
That’s not all the live dealer does though. If you’re familiar with any other Evolution titles of this style, you’ll know that the individual that leads your game is more of an entertainer than a traditional dealer. They put on a show for players, interact with them in the chat and personally congratulate the top winning players by mentioning their username. Their dress is much more subdued than on the likes of Dream Catcher and Monopoly Live, probably not to detract from the surroundings. Males wear black suits whilst females wear simple black dresses.
Unlike most other casino games of this type, the Lightning Roulette wheel takes a backseat to other parts of the environment. It’s not specified but it’s more than likely that this auto European roulette wheel was created in partnership with TCSJOHNHUXLEY, the legendary casino equipment supplier. As we said, there are 37 red and black numbers on the wheel, from 0-36, which you can bet on. Its turret is chrome while its circumference and stand are illuminated in a gold colour to match the environment and you’ll see various close-ups of the wheel as the ball spins. That’s all there is to say on it really.
Lastly, let’s take a look at how you interact with the interface before moving on to what you can see and hear on your display.

The standard Evolution interface is split into two parts: ¾ a video stream and ⅓ a digitally-rendered betting layout. It suits all of their conventional casino games as well as more cutting-edge titles like this one.
The bottom of the interface features the digitally-rendered betting area where you’ll place your chips. There’s the main roulette table and the racetrack area off to the right with buttons to undo or double your active bet, save your favourite and special bets, access to the results of the last 500 rounds, a view of the hot and cold numbers and the option to autoplay up to 100 rounds. Next to this there’s access to the lobby and the possibility to play other tables simultaneously.
Opposite this, you’ll catch sight of your current balance and your total bet above which there’s the instant chat as well as a stream of each round’s winners. At the top left, you’ll find the original payouts table you saw earlier with the option to pin it in place. Given the fact that this table covers much of the interface, we recommend that you keep it open alongside the game instead of cluttering the stream.
An overview of your account history, game information via the ? icon, three audio and visual settings (more on them in a minute) and the ability to play in full screen are all found to the top right.
We’re pleased to report that the game ran smoothly on our testing devices which include an HP laptop with a wired 1GB download speed Internet connection and a OnePlus 6T.
When betting time begins, the betting layout rises so that you can place your chips. The amount you’ll be betting is encircled with a gold ring so be sure that it’s correct before you click the button, but remember that if you press anything in error, there’s the option to undo your bet. If your bankroll permits you can choose to double your next wager or autoplay up to 100 rounds using the buttons we mentioned on the interface above.
We have to give kudos to the team responsible for choosing the music for this game. It fits the environment and style of this title perfectly. Drumming builds up suspense to the reveal of the round’s Lucky Numbers while softer ringing sounds can be heard when Lucky Payouts are being calculated. All these sounds are distinct, the dealer’s voice can be heard clearly throughout. Should any of these noises bother you, you’re able to adjust them to your preferences using the speaker and cog icons on the interface.
This game comes to your screen via a high-tech, multi-camera rig from their Riga studio. The state-of-the-art set-up means that you’re able to see the studio from all angles including a main shot that shows the entire set, one that focuses on the dealer pulling the lever and close ups of the wheel when the ball comes to a rest to name a few. There are two viewing modes on PC – full-screen HD and classic mode. We explained the former view earlier but if you happen to have a poor Internet connection it’s preferable that you use the latter as the stream is smaller allowing for a fuller view of the chat and further game stats. Don’t forget, you can play in either medium, high or HD quality, as best suits you too.
As expected, Lightning Roulette is compatible with any device due to being developed in HTML5, and all its features and bets remain present. The game’s stream quality remains intact due to its HTML5 built-in native video support while the interface is set to optimise for any display size, in portrait or landscape mode, so you can choose exactly what you prefer. There will be some differences in how it looks but it plays just the same.
What’s your experience with Lightning Roulette been like? Do you prefer it to standard roulette, did you hit a huge multiplier win that you can’t stop bragging about or did you encounter a brilliant live dealer who made the game all the better?
