From its promising beginnings in 1999, Playtech has grown to become one of the biggest casino software companies in both European and Asian markets. This supplier invests and reinvests in its products that mirror an authentic online gaming experience be it roulette, blackjack, baccarat or some never-before-seen twist on a live dealer game.
They work with numerous big-name operators, hold licences in many markets and most recently raised their benchmark with a cutting-edge studio in the heart of Riga but what about the details? How do their games perform, do their dealers raise the bar of professionalism, and how does their powerful technology support it all?
Let’s take a closer look and see if they succeed in delivering the ”best live casino offering on the market” (Mor Weizer, Playtech CEO, 2017) in our Playtech review.
This game provider was initially reviewed in February 2019.

Playtech brands its games selection as ”best-in-class” and with recent wins at the Gaming Intelligence Awards for Supplier Innovation, it’s without a doubt that their tables played a role in receiving this recognition.
They cover the basics of playing online with a myriad of 24/7 roulette, blackjack and baccarat tables with varying bet limits and tailor made solutions for casino operators such as bet365. Additionally, they supply games including live poker, Hi-Lo and Sic Bo along with their game show-style title Spin-A-Win.
Stakes: €0.50 – €1,000
Their selection of roulette games includes Single Zero, Prestige Lite, Speed, language variants in English, Italian, Russian, Romanian, Spanish, Mexican Spanish, Mandarin and more, as well as their Grand Royale range and Age of Gods Roulette to name a few.

Their blackjack tables come with side bets including Perfect Pairs, 21+3 and Bet Behind in standard, Ultimate, Unlimited, Grand and VIP versions.
Stakes: €1 – €500
Their baccarat collection is more extensive than most with titles including Squeeze, Golden, No Commission Baccarat and more.
Stakes: €0.50 – €1,500
In terms of card games, you’ll find Casino Hold ‘em, 3 Card Brag and Hi-Low alongside the dice game Sic Bo and Spin-A-Win.
While all Playtech live casino games conjure up feelings of a true high roller experience, their Grand Royale tables were designed to deliver a genuine look and feel worthy of true VIP players akin to that of a Salle Privée found within a land-based casino. The area is made up of a total of 7 tables – 5 blackjack and one roulette and baccarat table each.
Whether you’re superstitious or not, the individual who leads your table of choice can truly make or break your game. This software supplier knows this, and that’s why they’ve invested time, effort and money into making Playtech live dealers some of the best in the industry. How do they do it?
Well, their flagship operations based in Riga (more on this in a minute) house advanced training facilities which have moulded 500+ multilingual individuals into camera-ready game presenters. Each employee undergoes rigorous training at this provider’s on-site campus and once they graduate, their performance is continually assessed against strict criteria and targets.
All the dealers we encountered were exceptionally pleasant and easy-going, willing to chat about their weekend spent with their family, Apex Legends or other video games they’re playing, and take Netflix recommendations from players too. One presenter we did come across explicitly stated that she would not discuss politics with a player as it goes against the company’s policy. It’s good to see that they actually avoid potentially divisive topics to keep the ambience at the tables light-hearted.
As you’ve seen so far, online casino gaming from Playtech is streamed from a studio environment, but where is it all based? Riga, Latvia, another European iGaming hub, of course.
Not one to cut corners, this game provider cut the ribbon on what they called the “world’s largest next generation Live Casino” in February 2017. This relatively new setup caters for the majority of their European customers, however, further studios are located in the Philippines, Spain, Belgium and Romania.
To set the scene for the grandeur you’ll find inside, the 8,500 square metre studio was built atop the city’s fortified 16th century walls in Riga Old Town. In addition to what you see on screen – which we’ll touch on momentarily – the facility also houses a 24/7 Mission Control Centre, a Research & Development lab and an ideas and innovation room, all safeguarded by a superior security system.
When many game providers converted their games to HTML5, Playtech did the same following intensive user testing and feedback. Simultaneously, they also revamped the design of their games to suit the evolving trend towards mobile gaming.
We began our Playtech review by analysing the game on our HP laptop and immediately noticed the high-quality of the stream and how uncluttered the user interface appears. Despite being new to this provider’s table games, navigating the interface was immensely intuitive. Your view of the live dealer is encapsulated by controls that allow you to place your bets, view the betting limits and payouts, chat to the dealer, view the last winning numbers, the roads and so on, depending on what you’re playing.
Once we pulled out our OnePlus 6T from our pocket and loaded their lobby, we confirmed our preference. In spite of the smaller screen size, none of the elements of the interface seemed out of place and some parts can be hidden (more on this further down). All their games are playable in portrait and landscape mode, and are equally pleasant but we’re partial to the portrait view especially on titles like Spin-A-Win and Soirée Blackjack. All you need to do is find a good mobile casino to bet on, and our recommendation is bgo.
Now that you’ve taken a better look at what appears on your smartphone or PC screen, let’s examine the Playtech software behind it.
Their advanced control centre, situated in the Playtech casino facility described above, is manned by staff who monitor the gaming floor 24/7 and manipulate the latest business intelligence tools to manage key customer services tasks such as player chat, dealer performance and more.
Hundreds of state-of-the-art cameras deliver varying angles of the table action to your LCD while behind-the-scenes, a 25m wide LED curved wall stretches across the entire back wall of a dedicated room, enabling operators to customise and render the background in real-time.
In practice, the clean user interface we described above lends itself well to these real-time tables. For example, on Playtech roulette, you can expand and collapse the red and black betting table to gain a better view of the dealer while a sidebar with the functionality to place your bets, save your favourite wagers and access the racetrack and special bets is all there. Similarly, all Playtech baccarat types include visible scorecards (which can be hidden) that are optimised for possible low bandwidth video stream.
They’re all fully-customisable too with access to settings you can toggle on or off as you please, adjustable betting limits, access to instant chat and game help and perhaps most conveniently, an in-game Cashier (that’s most useful on PC) to add funds to your account.
Playtech plc was founded at the turn of the century, in 1999, by Teddy Sagi, an Israeli entrepreneur, in Tartu, Estonia. Sagi collaborated with partners from the casino, software engineering and multimedia industries to launched this supplier’s first casino product in 2001. Since then, the company has become a powerhouse in the gaming industry with over 5,000 employees across 17 countries around the world and 140 global licences in 20 regulated jurisdictions. The company is listed on the London Stock Exchange, is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index and made a massive €807.1 million in revenue in 2017.
