bgo Live Casino Review

bgo advertises itself as the Best Online Casino in the UK and has used celebrities such as Verne Troyer and Paris Hilton in its humorous adverts, but what lies behind its scripted TV spots?

A long-standing partnership with Playtech and a thorough loyalty programme are just a few of the ways this operator lives up to the image it’s created for itself. But what about its offers, customer care and payments? See how they deliver on these areas and more in our bgo casino review.

This casino was initially reviewed in February 2019.

What makes bgo live casino standout

bgo live casino is exclusively powered by Playtech who supply this operator with around 60 live roulette, live blackjack, live baccarat and other card games such as Casino Hold’em and Hi-Lo. Something that we did notice in their lobby were three distinct live dealer tables under the heading Chinese New Year that formed part of the €25k giveaway of the same name which ran in early 2019. We appreciate the effort they put in using themed tables especially for promotions as this isn’t done regularly. There are a few standout elements of this area that we’d like to point out. The game tiles we mentioned above feature information on the minimum and maximum bet levels, available seats and the latest numbers. The only thing that’s missing are the opening hours of each table. There’s also an explanation on what live casino is and a detailed FAQ that provides both practical tips as well as troubleshooting suggestions. It’s really great to see that the effort’s been put in to this area of the site.

bgo Bonuses

As you’d expect, there’s a standalone bgo promotions page which lists all their current offers. At the time of review, the majority of these were slot-based however we did come across that €25k giveaway we spoke of earlier. As long as such campaigns and other bgo bonuses for live casino come along once in a while, we can’t complain.

bgo VIP Players

The bgo VIP programme spoils its members with a plethora of benefits including personal service, rewards, private promotions, gifts, hospitality invites and higher limits on live casino. That last one was music to our ears. What’s even better is there’s no beating around the bush about earning your status as a high roller at bgo. They encourage you to get in touch with them through an on-site form if you’re a VIP player at any one of their competitors, and it’s this upfront approach that we’d like to see more casinos adopt the same approach.

Appearance & Design

Visually, bgo.com is an intergalactic dream with shades of deep blues and purples that frame the main body of the page. In the centre, you’ll see the page split up in the usual way with a distinct navigation bar at the top, a large revolving promotional banner and the conventional grid of games divided into 6 categories.

Once you’re on the Live Casino section, you’ll see large game tiles as we described above that are quite aesthetically appealing. Similarly, the Promotions page is well-structured with enticing imagery and text for each campaign, however we’d prefer to see two offers side-by-side rather than in a long list. That’s probably us just nit-picking though.

Text-heavy pages such as the FAQs and Help ones could do with a refresh to be more user-friendly. Showcasing the most common queries on the top plus the use of accordions (those expandable and collapsible sections) on the former would not only make them look better but allow it to meet the needs of users faster. That’s our one gripe about such areas of their casino site.

BGO live casino review - website

Desktop Website

  • bgo online casino has a rich colour scheme with a conventional layout.
  • Parts of the site such as the promotional banners take up unnecessary space and could be scaled down.
  • Text-based pages require a revamp.

Mobile Website

  • bgo mobile casino is best described as a smaller version of the PC site.
  • Loads equally as fast.
  • Longer pages could do with accordions. The lack of these is especially noticeable on smartphone.

Technology & Functionality

As it follows a similar structure to many websites we’ve reviewed before, navigating BGO casino is incredibly easy to do. The nav bar and categories we touched on function well however if you know exactly what you’re looking for you can head straight to the Search bar. Something we’d like them to add, is the ability to search by game provider and possibly filter by game type such as fast or slow-pace for live dealer games.

When we looked around the site in more depth, we realised that there was nothing to really write home about. It loads in a reasonable time and works well but nothing truly stands out. If they wish to continue to brand themselves as they do, we hope to see them invest in technology and development further, to do something to place themselves amongst the operators who are already positioning themselves as Game Tech companies with a wider purpose than online gambling exclusively.

Desktop Website

  • Works well overall in terms of speed and functionality.
  • More game tile information can be added.
  • A filtering system for games would be welcome across the board.

Mobile Website

  • The mobile version of bgo.com functions as expected.
  • The search bar is harder to spot.
  • Pop-ups (such as the Boost Bar one) could be sleeker and more discreet.

Deposit & Withdrawals

Payments are a little unconventional here. For starters, you have five different balances on your account – Real Winnings, Bonus Pending Winnings, Buy-In Balance, Bonus Funds and Main Balance – and your funds are depleted from your account in that order. Just to clear this up for you, Buy-In Balance refers to funds that become “ringfenced” once you accept a bonus and these funds may only be used on casino games. All the other balances are explained on their FAQ page.As there’s no minimum withdrawal amount as such, a €2.50 fee is applied to all funds that you choose to remove from your account. Information such as the minimum deposit amount, bgo withdrawal times and so on could be detailed much clearer on site but at least the information was listed within their FAQs. On the other hand, the interface you’ll use when processing payments on your account is simple, easy-to-use and doesn’t really need any modifications.

bgo Customer Support

bgo customer support is accessible via the Help button to the right of your screen on desktop or from the footer. Once you’re there, you’ll gain access to their five means of contact – chat, email, phone, letter and a comprehensive FAQ. Assistance is on-hand 7 days a week but unfortunately only between 7:30am – 01:00am which may hinder your gaming experience if you’re playing from anywhere other than a European time zone.We contacted a care representative via chat at around 16.15 CET and got through right away. The individual we spoke with introduced himself, was incredibly polite and helpful in his reply to our queries. Even though their site is incredibly resourceful in terms of information, it’s nice to know that help is at hand should you need it.

This online casino puts their money where their mouth is when it comes to their bgo responsible gaming programme as active supporters of Remote Gambling Trust (RGT) and the Remote Gambling Association (RGA).And to put this into practise, you’ll find a detailed page on their website dedicated to this topic. It features an explanation of the tools – deposit limits, time-out, reality checks and self-exclusion – at your disposal as well as a short self-assessment and recommendations of third party support groups.Beneath the section on each limit, you’ll find direct access to implement it on your account should you so wish. These interactive pages are equally straightforward to use with accurate advice on when these limits come into effect and how to amend them to suit your needs.

About bgo

Originally a bingo operator, bgo became a fully-fledged online casino some 7 years ago in 2012. Back in 2014, Playtech signed an agreement to supply this operator with its full selection of games and invested £10 million in exchange for a 3.33% equity stake on customary terms. Since then, they’ve continued to grow in popularity, becoming a favourite amongst UK players in particular.
